Ballad songs in minor notes will be more captivating if they are accompanied with picking technique rather than strumming technique

 
     
     
 

There are two techniques of picking, Apoyando and Tirando. Apoyando is used to play single tones or in melody section, while tirando is used to play chord section in a song. Only tirando will be discussed in this section.

Tirando is a picking technique, by directing fingers toward palm. After picking, the nail, don’t touch the other string. Look at the picture below:

The Tirando’s Basic Practice

 
  • At Am and C chord, finger p (thumbs) picks the 5th string.

  • At G7 and E7, finger p picks the 6th string.

  • At Dm, finger p picks the 4th string.

  • For all the chords:

    • Finger i (index finger) picks the 3rd string.

    • Finger m (middle finger) picks the 2nd string.

    • Finger a (ring finger) picks the 1st string.
